INDUSTRY FOCUSED SEMINAR
|
| A New World Order – A New Normal for the Year of the Dragon |
| Justin Urquhart Stewart, Marketing Director & Co-Founder, Seven Investment Management |
How to learn to develop and prosper in this fast changing environment.
The hyperbole of the populist media is designed to be fearful. Sadly the demands of 24 hour media seems forever dependent on an increasingly extreme rhetoric that allows little time for considered thought and debate. Yes, there are some very difficult issues that have to be addressed, but that is not to say that the global economy is doomed as some would have us believe.
Justin will take a global trip to try and put into perspective how the economic tectonic plates have been and will continue to be moving. He will highlight key areas that must be managed through but also identify those positive themes that will eventually lead to a path of recovery for the indebted western nations.
With key political changes occurring in the USA, China and Europe, 2012 may well lay down the direction for the globe over the next few years. The Year of the Dragon should be a year of good fortune and the dragon is seen as a master of authority, and if that means some more effective global statesmanship, then perhaps this year augurs well?

INDUSTRY FOCUSED SEMINAR
|
| Uncharted Waters |
| Mark Tibergien, Chief Executive Officer, Pershing Advisor Solutions LLC, a BNY Mellon company |
The winds of change have cast many advisory firms into uncharted waters. Most advisors are buffeted by regulatory reform, margin squeeze, talent shortages and an aging population of partners and principals. Stuck to their hulls are the barnacles of unclear strategies that need updating, inadequate succession planning and inefficient processes. Like a modern-day James Cook, visionary advisors will chart a new world order in which their firms will emerge as a compelling proposition for both clients and employees.
In this session, Mark Tibergien, will identify the characteristics of elite advisory firms, and the tactics advisors can deploy to build truly elite businesses by capitalizing on the uncertainty. In particular, Mr. Tibergien will address the critical elements of strategic positioning, building a structure to support the strategy, recruiting and retaining the right people, and building a business to last.

PROFESSIONAL & CAREER DEVELOPMENT
|
| Effectively Dealing with the media & presentations skills |
| Paul Coia, Presenter & Journalist |
2012, marks the 30th anniversary of the opening of Channel Four TV. Paul Coia was part of the launch team, and the voice that opened the new station. He has since gone on to build his presentation and media skills through hosting shows like BBC1's Pebble Mill At One, BBC2's Catchword quiz, ITV's Heaven Knows game show, and many more programmes for terrestrial and satellite broadcasters, as well as coaching Presentation skills across the world for household name clients in Europe, America, The Middle and Far East.
Paul has also voiced many documentaries for the BBC and Discovery channels on subjects as diverse as the clear up after 9/11, the American Presidential race, French fascism, and Shakespeare to name a few.
During the forum Paul will be passing on his experience in 2 separate sessions, one on effectively dealing with the media and a second on presentation techniques.
Areas covered will include: interview tips for media opportunities and advice that will ensure your business presentations are memorable. All lessons learned are communication techniques that will be pertinent in everyday office, and business, life. How can you bridge away from awkward questions when being interviewed? How do you maximise a publicity opportunity? Can you set your own agenda or are you governed by the direction an interviewer sets? How do you answer tough questions when making a business presentation? Are your slides informative, or are they just plain messy. Do you need to learn a memory technique rather than reading your presentation from cards or the screen? |

PROFESSIONAL & CAREER DEVELOPMENT
|
| Making conflict creative |
| Ruth Scott, author, broadcaster, mediator & conflict storyteller |
Conflict is an inevitable part of life. Most of us wish that wasn’t so. But I have learnt through hard experience that conflict can be immensely creative. Doctor and Psychoanalyst, M. Esther Harding said,
“Conflict is the beginning of consciousness”.
If we can learn so much from it, why then do we often experience it as destructive? How can we make conflict work for, rather than against, us? In this lecture I’ll suggest the answer to that question concerns awareness and attitude. I’ll explore the potential and pitfalls of conflict. I’ll illustrate how our understanding of human perception needs to change if conflict is to become creative. I’ll argue that excellence in a competitive environment can be fully achieved only when compassion is central to our approach to conflict.
This session is rooted in personal and professional experience. I’ll use illustrations from my work with individuals and groups living with the legacy of violent conflict in different parts of the world. I’ll show how the dynamics writ large in these stories can shed light on our own, usually less dramatic, conflicts. I’ll engage your imagination with visual images that will challenge your understanding of human perception. I’ll raise questions that I hope will open up your awareness and encourage you to explore further. I aim to make my lecture an enjoyable, thought-provoking experience that will help you deal better with conflict wherever it arises.

- Make all experiences serve their ultimate purpose.
